Monday News

Dear Families,

The students did an amazing job leading All School Morning Meeting. We will lead it again on October 23rd.

On Thursday, the students went to Burnt Rock Farm and the alpaca farm in Hanksville. Thank you to all the chaperones! Ask your child what they learned about on the field trip.

We have started graphing the amount of daylight in Vermont weekly. In January, the students will get a mystery place around the world to figure out where it is located. There will be clues, including amount of daylight increasing or decreasing.

This week the students will meet their prebuddies. The day has not been decided yet.

 Homework:

Read each night for a minimum of 20-30 minutes.

Math:
3rd graders – page 29, 33
4th graders – pages 55, 56, 59, 60

Writing: Last week we read the Time for Kids article called Dino Hunter. Answer the following questions.

Mark Norell is a paleontologist. What character traits and skills do you think a paleontologist should have? Record your ideas on a T-chart labeled Character Traits (on the left) and Job Skills (on the right). Remember to cite evidence from the article for the character traits and skills you pick.

Homework is due Friday, October 2nd

The Third and Fourth graders went on a field trip to Burnt Rock Farm and the alpaca farm.
We got to pick potatoes at Burnt Rock Farm.
At the alpaca farm Karen, who took us on the tour, gave us alpaca fur. She also showed us the barn.
There was a sick alpaca with a alpaca coat. It has pneumonia.

We got to taste the alpaca food.

These are the crates that the potatoes are kept in.

Holey Underwear! Can it really be DAV PILKEY at the Flying Pig??! It can!
THURSDAY, OCT. 8 at 4 pm at the Shelburne Town Hall5240 Shelburne Road, Shelburne
Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet the amazing creator of Captain Underpants, right here in Vermont at the Flying Pig Bookstore! Dav will be here celebrating the publication of his newest book, Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot.
There's something rotten in the state of Ohio, and it's smellier than a pile of putrid gym socks! Steer clear -- it's Sir Stinks-A-Lot! George and Harold, and their doubles, Yesterday George and Yesterday Harold, have a good thing going. Two of them go to school, while the other two hide in the tree house and play video games all day -- then they switch! But when their malicious gym teacher, Mr. Meaner, creates a method of mind-control that turns their fellow students into attentive, obedient, "perfect" children, the future of all humanity will be in their hands!
Turnout for this event will be large, so you must RSVP with the number of people attending: flyingpigevents@gmail.com or 802-985-3999.
We will have all of Dav Pilkey's books on hand to purchase for autographing at a special discount for attendees!
And - you will also get to meet Captain Underpants himself! This will be an amazingly fun afternoon
