Dear Families,
Happy Halloween! I'm sure many of you are without power. What a storm! I hope everyone is safe and warm! We will be rescheduling fire safety day and kinderbuddies. I will let you know when a date is set.
The first book project is due Friday. The students will need to do a retell and a drawing of the setting from the book they read.
I have decided that we will only have students for our first publishing party for our narrative unit. In December, we will have another publishing party on the same day as the holiday singalong. At this publishing party, we will share our narrative and informational writing with families.
Happy Halloween,
Mrs. Carter

Dear Families,
There is no school on Thursday and Friday this week. The first book project assignment went home last week. Students should be reading a book at home and writing a retell about the book and drawing the setting. This is due November 3rd. Please contact me if you have questions.
We will continue to work on our fiction stories in writing workshop. We will have a publishing party in November. I am sending out a survey to see if there is a time that works best for families to attend.
Last week we got to know our kinderbuddies. The kinderbuddies' artwork is on display in the gym.
Enjoy your week,
Mrs. Carter

Monday News
Dear Families,
Students should still be reading every day for at least 20 to 30 minutes at home. It is an essential habit to form now which will benefit your child forever. We will be starting our monthly book projects this month. These projects give children a creative way to share the books they have been reading at home with their friends at school. It's a great way to get kids interested in and talking about books and helps keep them accountable for reading at home. Look for the first book project assignment in your child's backpack.
We will have kinderbuddies on Monday. Our class will be matched up with Mrs. Parker's class. Our first kinderbuddies will focus on getting to know each other.
We are leading all school morning meeting on Friday.

In Writing Workshop, we are developing characters for our fiction stories.
This is the list of advice for developing a character:
- Start with whatever you've decided matters to you about your character. Is he or she like you?
- Put together a character so that all the parts fit together into a coherent person.
- Reread often. Ask yourself, "Do these different things make sense within one person? Is it believable?"
- Make the character complex and more human by asking, "What is the downside of this trait? How does this characteristic help or hurt the character?"
Enjoy these videos of the students starting to create their characters!
