Monday News

Dear Families,

The April book project is due this week. Each student will have an opportunity to present their memorized poem for the class. The May/June book project is the last book project of the school year. Students will make a food that goes along with their book. The directions will go home at the end of the week.

On the Friday before break, the students published their literary essays and we read to Mrs. Linder's class. In writing, we are starting a unit on journalism. Students will be the reporters and practice writing in a third person perspective. In reading, we are starting a unit on biographies. Both units will finish up in June and we will end the school year with poetry.

We will start a mini-unit on energy and motion in science. The students will work with wind-up toys and create their own wind-up toy. They will experiment with a marble and pipes to create roller coasters.

We will learn that:
  • Energy is present whenever there are moving objects
  • The speed of an object is related to the energy of the object
  • The faster a given object is moving, the more energy it possesses
  • When objects collide, they transfer energy and change the object’s motion
  • The faster a given object is moving, the more observable impact it can have on another object
We are also continuing our unit on organisms in science. We will welcome chicken eggs in our classroom on Tuesday. We will observe the eggs as they incubate for 21 days.

I will be out on Tuesday for a math committee meeting.

Thursday and Friday is our Boston trip!

Enjoy the week,

Mrs. Carter

Monday News

Dear Families,

The fourth graders will go to a play at CHMS on Wednesday, 4/19. This is a change from the original date. There will not be a permission slip since this field trip is within the district. The third graders will have a guest teacher on that morning while I am at the play with the 4th graders. This is part of the transition process for 4th graders.

The art and music night is also on Wednesday. It will start at 6 pm. Please stop by the 3/4 wing of the school to see the science experiments posters.

Eliot Lothrop led the 4th graders in a real barn raising of a 1/4 scale model. Thank you Eliot for this amazing experience!

The students continue to work on poetry and finishing their literary essays. The book projects are due after break. The students will recite a poem they have memorized.

Thank you for your support during SBAC testing!

Enjoy your week,
Mrs. Carter
