Dear Families,
Thursday, October 15th, we will have our first
publishing party for our Narrative Writing Unit. This will be the only
publishing party that parents will not be invited. However, all the 3/4 students
will celebrate their writing on this day together. There will be
opportunities for parents to view student writing since it does not go home
until the end of the school year. I have the previous year’s published
pieces so the students will be able to see their growth this year.
Conferences start this week. There will be no school on Friday and
Monday. Please let me know if you do not remember your conference time or are
unable to attend.
The first book project goes home this week. Each month,
children will read a book and use the project guidelines to share with others
about their book.
Last week the students met their prebuddies. We will spend
time with our prebuddies the last Wednesday of each month. Next month’s theme
will be bats.
Homework:
Reading:
Read each night for a minimum of 20-30 minutes.
Choose a book and bring it to school to be approved by your teacher for the October book project by Thursday. Read the book at home and use the book to complete this month’s book project due October 30th. This can be a book from the classroom or library.
Math:
3rd graders – page 45 and 464th graders – pages
Science: We are studying interdependence in science. Students are learning that energy is transferred through interdependent systems to support life.Energy derived from food is needed for all organisms (plants and animals) to stay alive and grow. In simple and complex food webs, all animals' food begins with plants. Choose one night this week to trace your dinner back to the sun.
