Quail Eggs

The quail eggs hatched today! More pictures will be coming soon!

Green Mountain Compost and Williston Drop-off Center

A reaction to our field trip to Green Mountain Compost and Williston Drop-off Center:

When I saw the compost place, I thought that the process of turning rotten tomatoes was very cool (and stinky). Rhonda talked about FBI agents. FBI agents weren’t actually FBI agents but they were decomposers, such as earthworms or mushrooms, that break down the compost and turns it into a dirt type thing. We also visited the recycling place. I saw scrap metal and what can go in the scrap metal bin. Some can’t because it has a type of electricity that is dangerous. We also saw things that people didn’t want but was still in good shape so other people could use it, to reuse.

Monday News

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! The quail eggs are in the incubator and will hatch on May 23rd. The students will help to rotate the eggs and make sure the incubator temperature maintains at 99.5 degrees.

The 3/4 students are focusing on kindness. We have started a kindness box. Each student can write down anything kind they notice and I will pull the notes out of the kindness box to read to the class.

Nurse Heather taught the students about candy versus medicine. Ask your child about what they learned about candy and medicine to keep them safe.

May 12th is Pioneer Day. Your child can come to school dressed like a Westward Expansion person. There will be a special Westward Expansion lunch.

You will be seeing lots of permission slips coming home.

Mark your calendars:
May 9 - I am out for an appointment for my daughters.
May 10 - I am at school, but in a math lesson study with the 3/4 team.
May 11 - Late Start Day and Four Winds
May 12 - Pioneer Day
May 17 and 18 - Science NECAPS for 4th graders only

Monday News

Dear Families,

The students will perform their poems for the class on Monday.

We will be leading all school morning meeting on Friday. The theme will be electricity.

The students will have SBAC testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Please send gum with your child if it will help with focus.

We will not have homework this week since it will be an exhausting week for the students with SBAC testing. Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep each night this week.

Connecting to our social studies unit on Westward Expansion, Alison has set up a Pioneer lunch on May 12. Check out the menu on the BPMS website. Ms. Motta will be working with the students to decide on how they would like to dress up for that day. If you have extra clothes you are willing to loan for students who do not have pioneer clothing, that would be appreciated. The clothes can be sent in any time between now and May 12.

In reading, we finished the book Hatchet and will be starting Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech.

Enjoy your week,

Anna
