Classroom News

Dear Families,

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! We have 3 busy weeks until December break, so there is a lot to tell you. Please read this whole blog post and look at the photos.

Report cards will go home with students on Monday, 12/2. You will notice that the report cards are in a sealed envelope. I chose to do this because I want your family to be able to decide how to share the information with your child. The sealed envelope will also ensure students are not sharing report cards with peers on the bus. In school, students are given rubrics and assessments and I discuss strengths and next steps with them. The report card has number grades and this may or may not be something you want to share with your child. However, I do recommend you read the strengths and next steps sections under each academic area with your child.

We are starting our practices for the Third and Fourth Grade Play. Practices will be twice/week from 9-11am until the performance of the play. The play will align with our Westward Expansion Unit in social studies. We are still confirming the final date of the play, but it will definitely be an evening performance. Sally Hayes will send an email with more information soon. The first practice day will be this Friday, 12/6. The director of the play will be Jen Alred. Ms. Alred is a music director/accompanist with a private voice studio in Bristol. She has done the music directions or directed the fall musicals at Mt. Abraham UHS and has been doing it since 2000. She has also done a 4-5-6th grade play at Bristol Elementary every year for the past ten years. We are very excited to have her at BPMS!

Book Projects for the Mobile Project are due Monday. A new book project will go home this week. Here is a link to this month's project.

In Reading and Writing, we are going to continue our non-fiction reading and informational writing. In Social Studies and Science, we are working on our biome brochures and studying weather.

We are finishing up our read aloud, Escaping the Giant Wave. Our next read aloud will be The One and Only Ivan. We will see the adaptation of this book at the Flynn Theater on Monday, 1/6. An electronic permission slip will go home this week.

Please return the ski program waiver as soon as possible, so I can turn in the forms to Courtney, the director of the program. Let me know if you need another copy.

Save the Date - On December 11th, it will be a Late Start and on December 17th at 1:30, we will have our Winter Sing-A-Long.
