Monday News

Dear Families,

Only 2 more days of play practice before the performance on January 28th. Keep practicing lines.

Our class is reading The Misadventures of the Family Fletcher for read aloud. Have your 3rd or 4th grader tell you about the book.

We have started our Informational writing unit. The students are learning about different ways to organize their topics to lead to new thinking. Examples of different organizational structures the students are trying on for size are:

  • boxes and bullets
  • causes and effects (problem and solution)
  • pros and cons
  • compare and contrast (similarities and differences)

Organization matters in informational texts large and small.

The students are beginning close reading in Reader's Workshop. We will be digging deeper into texts to answer key questions. For example, how does the setting affect the plot?

The third graders are working on multiplication. They are learning about different models to represent multiplication facts. All third graders will be switched to multiplication on Fasttmath during February break.

Lastly, students are learning about electricity in Science. Students started the unit by lighting a light bulb with one battery, a wire and a light bulb.

Friday is our first cross-country ski day. Students should dress warm and bring skis if they have them.

Ski you later,

Anna
